On March 17, at a special meeting where was discussed the current state of all affairs in European football because of pandemic of coronavirus, UEFA proposed the initiative to move the European Championship 2020 to the next year. This was tweeted by New York Times journalist Tariq Panja.

The special meeting is divided into three phases. The first is a conference with representatives of leagues and clubs, the second – with national associations and federations and the third – with executive bodies.

For taking effect the proposal must be approved at all three stages.

A number of federations advocated the postponement of Euro 2020 to the next year, so that they will have the possibility to lighten the calendar for completing national championships.

Bookmakers also said that the transfer of the European Championship to 2021 is the most probable solution.
