One of the most intriguing matches of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League immediately turned into an obvious one: “Bayern” defeated “Chelsea” away – 3:0, and it seems very incredible that the possible victory in Munich will help the Londoners to continue their participation in championship this year.
“Chelsea” failed immediately after a successful match against “Tottenham”, last year’s finalist, in the Premier League. “Bayern” was so powerful, more integrated and cooler that the only feeling the fans of Frank Lampard’s team had was compassion on “Chelsea”.
The remake of the final of Champions League 2012 ceased to be tense and intriguing in the first half of the second period: from 51st to 76th minutes of the match, “Bayern” threw three goals, and the first two with a difference of three minutes. It seems that the first quarter finalist was chosen at once after that.
- “Chelsea” has never lost matches with such score in European competitions – 0:3 is some kind of the club’s anti-record in European tournaments. This is the eighth home defeat of the team during this season – it was just as bad as in the 1985/86 season, where they also lost eight matches on their field.
- “Bayern” has won the seventh consecutive Champions League match this season – out of seven. This is just the third club in the history of the tournament who has such results: the previous ones were “Barcelona” in the 2002/2003 season and “Real” 2014/15. But, by the way, in both cases, so perfect start did not subsequently lead to the victory.
- Robert Lewandowski made two assists on a double of Gnabry, and then added a third by himself. For today he has nine goals in this Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo had the same amount in the 2013/14 season. Lewandowski will definitely play the return match and probably two quarter finals. That’s why he has excellent chances to make a new record.
- Serge Gnabry has already made his own specific record: he is the first player in the history of the Champions League to score all six first goals in the tournament in gates of teams from the same country (even from one city and in one city). Four of them he scored during a match against “Tottenham”, and now other two with “Chelsea”.
The second Tuesday match has also ended unexpectedly: “Barcelona” seemed to lose the match for a long time against “Napoli”, but in the end the game ended in a draw 1:1. According to the “Camp Nou” and the away match, the Spaniards are still favorites. So it seems that on the day of the return matches, nobody will care about Munich at all, because everything is clear there. And the Barcelona – Napoli match won’t have any competitors.
