This is exactly how things will be if the draft document governing the assignment of honorary sports titles is adopted. This proposal comes from the Ministry of Sports of Russia.
The ban applies to several categories:
- Athletes, if they have made a bet on the competition in which they participate.
- Coaches of athletes and teams. who made a bet on a tournament with the participation of their players.
- Judges, if they bet on the outcome of the competition, where they participate as arbiters.
Such actions of athletes are considered unsportsmanlike and are persecuted all over the world. The current rules in the Russian Federation also do not promote such actions and in case of above-mentioned violations the these sportsmen will be disqualified and fined etc. But the restrictions do not apply to other sports: a football player can easily bet on his favorite in boxing, and a basketball referee on his favorite team in volleyball.
