The German parliament has imposed a tax on operators that provide online gambling.
The deputies decided that the companies that deal with slots and online poker should pay the state 5.3% of their turnover.
This rate will take effect on July 1, 2021, when new rules for gambling come into force in Germany.
Representatives of the gambling industry, who opposed such a tax, filed a complaint with the governing bodies of the European Union, of which Germany is a member. Since, according to representatives of the gambling industry, the German authorities are actually illegally providing state assistance to operators of land-based gambling establishments, putting tax pressure on online gambling operators.
What this can lead to?
According to representatives of this organization, the result of the introduction of such a tax will be the transition of gamblers from legal operators to offshore ones.
Because, as previously explained by the analytical company Goldmedia, players are already afraid of a decrease in their winnings. After all, licensed operators are likely to offer reduced winnings to offset tax payments. But illegal operators who do not have to pay tax in Germany – increase winnings.
