PokerStars’ 15-year monopoly on the first place in the PokerScout rankings has ended – over the weekend, the GGNetwork, which includes the poker rooms GGPokerOK and GGPoker, became the # 1 poker network in the world.
The Stars have held this position since 2006, and no one has been able to get around it, although there were exceptions. For example, at the beginning of this year, the Ukrainian poker room PokerMatch launched tables with the drawing of bad beat jackpots, in which it was possible to win large prize money for a bet of less than one cent.
This allowed the room to briefly become the top 1 in the world, but after the end of the promotion, the red peaks returned to the leading position again.
The historic moment happened on June 19 – the GGNetwork came out on top, and most importantly, it remains there to this day. Looking at the rankings, PokerStars is still ahead of Good Game in terms of the number of players during rush hour, but the gap is insignificant – 7,685 versus 7,525. But according to the average weekly value, GGPokerOK has an advantage – 5,000 against 4,800.
In other respects, the Asian network is also pulling ahead and everything suggests that Good Game will “stake out” the first place for a long time.
Will PokerStars fight to reclaim first place?
So far, everything suggests that for the next few months GGNetwork will maintain leadership positions – low limits, constant promotions and leaderboards, as well as the looming WSOP Online. It starts at the end of August and will compete for 31 gold bracelets, and the number of cash players always increases during the tournament series.
It’s foolish for PokerStars to compete for audience in the summer – this is the weakest season in which traffic can drop significantly. The most interesting thing awaits the players in the fall, when the high season begins – such a competition between the two giants definitely gives players additional advantages.
