PokerStars canceled PSPC stages in Europe until April 10, 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic. However, the Sochi EPT will be held according to the plan, and you can still win member packages at PokerStars.
The coronavirus epidemic in Europe cancels the series
PokerStars, in a March 8 press release, said that “with a heavy heart, it was decided together with each casino partner to cancel all European events until April 10, 2020.” Due to the epidemic COVID-19 will not take place:
- Road to the PSPC – Hamburg (March 10-15, Germany);
- Road to the PSPC – La Grand Motte (March 10-15, France);
- Road to the PSPC – Madrid Gran Via (April 1-10, Spain).
PokerStars will contact all players who have won canceled tickets for ticket transfers. All other events outside the European countries will be held in accordance with the schedule:
- Okada Manila Millions (March 9-15);
- BSOP Sao Paulo (March 19-24);
- EPT Sochi (March 20-29).
Casinos in which these series will take place will follow additional precautions (they will use hand sanitizers, daily disinfect all poker equipment and regularly change decks).
Satellites for EPT Sochi on PokerStars
Until March 15th, PokerStars hosts satellites for the EPT Sochi. The final EPT qualifying tournament in Sochi with a buy-in of $ 215 and a guarantee of 10 packs worth $ 4.461 will be held on March 15 (start at 20:05 Moscow time). You can get to it through satellites for $ 11 and $ 22 (pass almost every hour). Also, at 20:05, satellites with a buy-in of $ 215 start, in which 1-2 EPT Sochi packs are played out.
A total of 44 players were selected through PokerStars satellites. Here is the schedule of all final satellites. Buy-in $ 215, start at 20:05 Moscow time (on March 14, the satellite starts at 21:05 Moscow time):
- March 10th EPT Sochi Qualifier (1 GTD Pack);
- March 11th EPT Sochi Qualifier (1 GTD Pack);
- March 12th EPT Sochi Qualifier (2 GTD Packs);
- March 13th EPT Sochi Qualifier (1 GTD Pack);
- March 14th EPT Sochi Qualifier (2 GTD packs);

Does PokerStars compensate the buy-in of the Main Event for online satellite players due to a sharp change of the ruble exchange rate?
At PokerStars satellites, packs include tickets to the Main Event, valued at $ 2,726. The buy-in in the Main Event is paid in rubles (175,000 rubles). It means that in satellites is used the exchange rate of 1 dollar = 64.20 rubles. Today 1 dollar = 73.23 rubles. Thus, the cost of a ticket in the Main Event is $ 2390 (the difference of $ 336 is not in favor of the player). That is the reason of players’ interest if PokerStars compensates the difference that has arisen due to the change in the ruble exchange rate?
Unfortunately, PokerStars representatives have not yet given an official answer to this question. In fact, the ruble buy-in equivalent in US dollars was played out in satellites. During the satellites, the ruble exchange rate changed several times. Therefore, it’s not possible to unequivocally answer the question whether PokerStars will return the difference or not.
Is it possible not to go to the Sochi EPT series due to the coronavirus epidemic?
EPT Sochi series has not been canceled, and a disclaimer is indicated in the satellite lobby (do not participate in the satellite if you cannot play the final event offline). Therefore, the final decision on the payment of compensation to the user who won the selection rests entirely on PokerStars.
