It became known that the Latvian casinos received significant financial support from the state to alleviate the situation associated with antique restrictions on their activities.
But the fact that gambling was represented by three companies on the first steps of the list of “beneficiaries” of aid raised some questions from the public. The authorities explain the situation by the fact that the operators received subsidies on an equal basis with other needy enterprises.
Note that the total amount allocated to support employers for six months in Latvia amounted to one hundred million euros – of which about five million went to participants in the gambling industry. This month, the Latvian authorities have introduced some relaxation of quarantine measures, this also applies to land-based gambling establishments in the republic.
Earlier NewsOfGambling reported that in mid-June 2021, the Latvian authorities allowed all gambling facilities to open.
In May this year, the Latvian Seim once again rejected the proposed amendments to the restrictions on gambling.
In addition, the Latvian authorities are planning to introduce a ban on alcohol in land-based gambling establishments.
