Popular streaming platform Twitch has announced the introduction of stricter rules for the dissemination of information about gambling. The new package of rules will be based on the prohibition of referral links to slots, roulettes and other products of the gambling industry. By doing this, the company seeks to protect its users from potential fraudsters and malicious content.
For example, Twitch will ban the use of referral tags (affiliate links) to gambling sites with the intention of making the platform much less profitable for those streamers who regularly broadcast their own game to online slots.
The official representative of the platform commented on the situation: “To prevent harm and fraud, which is often found on the sites of the gambling business, we decided to impose a ban on the distribution of various kinds of referral links to some resources. This list includes all sites that offer visitors online slots, roulette and similar gambling entertainment. ”
He added: “We will continue to monitor the platform for the emergence of prohibited materials. The Twitch team is ready to regularly update its own tools if the situation calls for it. We are giving time for all streamers to remove relevant content from their channels. The requirement must be met by August 17, 2021. Otherwise, coercive measures will be applied ”.
It is important to note that there is a fierce debate among users of the streaming platform Twitch over the legality and adequacy of the new rules of the service. Some agree that such a policy will be correct, as it will ensure the protection of users. Others claim that they will soon lose the bulk of their income and break down contractual obligations with online casino operators.
