Phil Hellmuth recently won his seventh High Stakes Duel fight against TV host Nick Wright, continuing his unbeaten streak. After the defeat, the opponent took 72 hours to make a decision on revenge and decided to abandon the continuation.
The new rival did not have to wait long – it was Tom Dwan, with whom Phil had so often mentioned the fight. The date of the meeting has already been determined – the rivals will come together at the table on August 25, and the match will traditionally be broadcast on PokerGO.
Since the first $ 50,000 match has already been played with Nick, Tom and Phil will start right away with the high stakes and the second round of the High Stakes Duel. Each will pay $ 100,000 and the other tour will cost $ 200,000.
It is highly likely that “PokerBrat” and “Durrr” will not give up at the end of the first meeting, so the poker community is expecting an impressive and long-lasting heads-up battle.
13 year history of feud
At the 2008 NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship, the young Dwan beat Hellmuth epically in the first hands. Phil got pocket aces against Tom’s ten. After a series of reraises, “Durrrr” came up and got a quick call.
For the turn came a ten, knocking Hellmuth out of the championship. Instead of quietly retiring, Phil in the traditional style began to complain about the poor play of the opponent:
“Son, I’ll tell you. I would never have bet more than $ 3,000 with tens preflop, ”commented Hellmuth.
